1. What first brought you to CrossFit Warehouse, and how long have you been a member?
Mary Jilek told me to try CFW if my schedule changed. A few months later it did, I stopped in, Veronica had just purchased the gym, we met, I joined, and I’ve been here 7–8 years. The community, coaches, and workouts felt good to my soul.
2. What was your very first CrossFit workout, and how did it go?
It was in Park Ridge, on the way to my studio. As a former football player, I was already familiar with hang cleans, push press, squats, and kettlebells. It went well.
3. What’s your proudest accomplishment so far in the gym?
Consistency. I’m proud I’ve stayed motivated and disciplined to work out at 5AM four days a week. At 54, a lot of people my age don’t have the will or desire to stay healthy.
4. What’s one movement or workout you love … and one you love to hate?
I love the Power Clean. It combines mind, body, and soul—no spot, no help, you either get it or you don’t. I despise burpees!
5. How has being part of this community impacted your life outside of the gym?
CFW is one of the best communities in Chicagoland. Many members have become true friends, and we hang out at games, festivals, houses, and celebrate milestones together.
6. What motivates you to show up and put in the work, even on tough days?
I want to live a long life. Challenging my body makes it stronger and resilient so it can function for years to come.
7. Do you have a favorite post-WOD meal, snack, or recovery ritual?
Yes, Greek yogurt with chocolate protein powder, moringa, and ashwagandha. About 40–50g of protein.
8. What advice would you give to someone just starting their CrossFit journey?
Remember it’s a journey. Rely on your reason for starting every time your body aches, it’s cold, or your bed is too comfortable. Your goal must be stronger than any excuse—and there will be many.
9. What goals are you currently working on (inside or outside the gym)?
Be more flexible, get a little stronger, and really zero in on nutrition.
10. How do you live out the CrossFit Warehouse core values — Community, Integrity, Inspire — in your daily life?
I remind people to keep in touch with loved ones, treat others with respect and good intentions, and I inspire by showing up consistently and posting workout videos.
11. What’s something fun or unique about you that most people might not know?
I run SportsZone Chicago, a podcast network covering Chicago sports. I cover the Bears and interview players in the locker room.
12. In one word, how would you describe your CrossFit Warehouse experience?
Therapeutic.
