How did you get into fitness and or CrossFit?
After getting out of the military in 2009, I found myself with a job traveling all across the midwest and living out of hotels and my service truck. 5 years later (and after a great deal of fast food) I found myself very out of shape and not feeling so great in general. After picking up P90X and doing that for a while, I found that I loved the type of exercise, but the repetitiveness was getting a bit old.

A little google searching later and I found videos of some of the original Crossfit Games and immediately said, “I wanna do THAT”. I found my closest affiliate in June of 2014 and have been an avid Crossfitter ever since. There’s just something about the welcoming nature and return-on-investment that comes with the hard work Crossfit offers. What other “cult” sends their members home healthier and stronger than when they arrived?

What made you want to become a CrossFit Trainer?
Having done Crossfit for a few years, I quickly found that people noticed my level of fitness and were always asking me questions, even those that didn’t do Crossfit. There is something immensely satisfying about seeing things “click” for people when you help them with a skill. The look of personal satisfaction on someone’s face when you help them to achieve something they never thought they could do in their lives is like heroin. Once you help someone, you want to help everyone and I’ve been hooked for a long time. After helping my fellow members for some time, I decided to make it official and completed my Level 1 training about a year ago, and my Level 2 a few weeks later. (The classes are really fun too!)

What do you love most about coaching?
What I love most about coaching is helping others. As long as everyone is receptive to it, there are improvements to be made by everyone, from brand new members all the way up to long-time veterans. Recognition isn’t the name of the game for me, but knowing that I can help people to do something they never thought they could, lift more than they could before, or even do something they’ve done before a little bit faster brings an immeasurable amount of satisfaction.

What are some of your goals you have yet to accomplish but hope to someday?
My personal goals are consistent ring muscle-ups, exceeding my old Deadlift PR of 500#, and pistols. Even after years of doing this, we all still have our sticking points. Just gotta keep at ’em.

What is your favorite music or favorite song to listen to while doing a WOD?
I love all genres of music but a few favorites while working out are: You’re going down – Sick Puppies, The Anthem – Good Charlotte, Defy You – The Offspring, Bleed it Out – Linkin Park, Psychosocial – Slipknot, and Gasoline – I Prevail (18+). I could write out a whole playlist here but it changes with my mood on any given day!
